What is 8D audio?
It is a stereo effect that pans the sound in a slow circle and adds a touch of space, so the music seems to move around your head. Nothing is added to the song itself.
Why do I need headphones?
The effect works by moving the sound between the left and right channels. Headphones keep those channels at each ear, so on loudspeakers the circling motion mostly disappears.
Does it work on AirPods and earbuds?
Yes. Any stereo headphones or earbuds — AirPods, earbuds or over-ear headphones — keep the left and right channels separate, so the rotating effect comes through.
Is 8D audio the same as surround sound?
No. Surround uses several real speakers around you. 8D is a stereo trick that only pans left and right, so it creates a sense of motion rather than true 3D placement.
Will 8D audio damage my hearing?
No more than any music. The effect only moves the sound around — keep the volume sensible, as you would with any headphone listening, and there is nothing to worry about.
