What is LUFS?
LUFS measures perceived loudness — how loud audio actually sounds. YouTube and Spotify aim for about -14 LUFS; broadcast targets -23 LUFS. Normalizing brings your file to a chosen target.
How is normalizing different from boosting the volume?
The volume booster adds a fixed amount of gain. Normalizing measures the loudness and moves it to a specific target, so different files all end up at the same level. Try the volume booster if you just want it louder.
Which target should I use for YouTube or a podcast?
For YouTube, Spotify and most podcasts, use the -14 LUFS target. Choose Broadcast (-23 LUFS) only when a TV or radio platform asks for EBU R128.
