When should I convert to mono?
Mono is ideal for voice recordings, podcasts and telephony: it halves the file size and plays back the same on single-speaker devices.
How does converting to mono work?
We average the two stereo channels — (L+R)/2 — into a single channel, so nothing important on either side is lost.
Does mono lose quality?
You lose the stereo width — the left/right separation — but not the clarity. For a single-voice recording that difference is usually inaudible.
When would I want stereo instead?
Choose stereo when a player or app expects two channels, or when you need a mono file to fill both speakers. Note that converting mono to stereo does not add real width.
Can I convert several files at once?

Do my files stay private?
