How is silence detected?
We remove sections quieter than about -50 dB that last longer than half a second, which trims dead air without chopping into speech.
Will it cut quiet speech by mistake?
No. The threshold sits well below normal speaking level, so soft words and breaths are kept — only true gaps are removed.
Does it make the file shorter?
Yes. Because the gaps are removed, the result is shorter than the original — that is what tightens a rambling recording.
